just for fun

It's been busy  per usual in the studio the past month working on a ton of projects. Chris and I found a moment to do some more home decorating - I should really be posting photos of our progress! I always forget to take the before photos :) We painted the wood trim white, got new curtains, and a new couch! The space feels so much more "us"

Here is  a little illo I have been working on just for fun the past week in between projects. I'm trying to get back into the groove of making work again. I have some sketches in the works that I need to turn into finals, so keep on the lookout for those. Hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

Happy Halloween! It's pretty obvious what are costumes are but if you can't tell Chris is the strong man, i'm the bearded lady, and Dolly is the dog faced boy. We had a lot of fun last weekend going to friends Halloween parties. It's so much fun to see everyones costumes! Looking forward to handing out candy to the trick or treaters tonight, eating pizza, and watching scary movies with friends. I have already started my Halloween movie marathon this afternoon while i'm working on a bunch of Christmas stuff - kinda weird. Have a safe Halloween everyone!

casual friday

It's been crazy busy in the studio this week - i'm talking like 13 hr work days! So today I took the day off and it has been wonderful so far! My day started out by sleeping in until 9 followed up by a nice 2 hr nap on the couch immediately upon waking up :) Chris decided it was time for me to get up so he made me a cup of my favorite coffee and then I helped him pack for a camping trip he is taking with his friends this weekend. We then ventured out to Brasa for a late lunch, and tonight I am going to grab some dinner and drinks with some friends. So all in all, a fantastic Friday! 

Yesterday we snapped these family pics above on the good ole trusty photo booth - it was a rare day since I actually put on clothes other then pj's, did my hair, and put a lil make up on ;) 

Oh and that's our dog Dolly, we adopted her last November through Secondhand Hounds. She is seriously the best dog ever. 

ModCloth: currently coveting for fall

I love Fridays - they have recently become my most relaxing day of the week since Chris and I usually don't have a ton of work to do and we can spend the day relaxing, drinking coffee - currently obsessed with the pumpkin spice k-cups, browsing the internet, and watching lots and lots of bad tv on netfix. ModCloth is always my go to site when I want to do some online shopping and here are a few items that I would love to add to my closet to wear on the perfect fall day :)

quick lil sketch

Today has been a busy day of playing catch up! Chris and I finally got some things done around the house, like getting our kitchen and bathroom sinks fixed - ha it's kinda lame, but you have no idea how excited we were to have actual water pressure in the kitchen! I made some from scratch chicken and wild rice soup which is my man's fav, did a lot of printing orders for my etsy shop, and shipping them out. I also spent the day working on some freelance projects which is always a lot of fun! I have some plans for a few new items for my shop - I really want to make a calendar :D This is a quick little warm up sketch that I whipped up tonight for that project. Let me know what you think!

I have some exciting news! I just reached 500 sales in my etsy shop. The support has been amazing, and I want to thank everyone! So THANK YOU! Like always - It has been crazy busy over here in the studio, but I can safely say it is now the weekend for me! Sunday's are usually my Monday. I had so many projects going on last night that I almost had to cancel my hair appointment and I'm so happy I didn't! (My hair was a mess! my boyfriend told me I had beast hair from beauty and the beast! I couldn't really disagree either ;) I was just the weirdo sitting in the middle of the salon working on my laptop drawing with my tablet while my hair was getting dyed. I must say I love how it turned out - I have never had this much color in my hair before so it was a big change for me. Any local peeps should check out Moxie Salon and get your hair did by Courtney - She's the best! On another note I found some time today to work on some new art for my etsy shop so check for it soon! I'm going to unwind from this crazy work week tonight with some dinner with one of my best friends and a walk around grand ave to do a little shopping :)

some new books / currently coveting on ModCloth

ack! I have been trying to write this post for the past few days now! So like I said really trying to get into the home makeover spirit! I bought Modern Vintage Style for some inspiration and it is filled with tons of great photos! I would suggest picking it up - plus it looks really nice added to my constantly growing book collection. I also picked up Practically Raw for it's amazing smoothie recipes - I haven't gotten around to making any yet, but when I do I will be sure to tell you about it.

And of course I am always loving everything from ModCloth. I check their website multiple times a day checking for the new arrivals! I love ordering from them and rarely end up having to return anything - which I don't know is a good thing or a bad thing ;) Anyways the above items are some things I really wouldn't mind adding to my closet.

"me time"

So, I have been pretty much non stop working for a while now. This week especially got crazy work wise for me and it is only tuesday - well technically wednesday - I just haven't gone to bed yet :/ But, I am trying to make it a point to be posting on this blog, and to make some more "me time" - i'm sort of a work-a-holic. Some things that I have been doing for my "me time" are cooking more! I have to say I am actually really starting to enjoy it too! I have also been working out on a pretty regular basis for around a month now and surprisingly I am really starting to enjoy that too! I found out I really like yoga by taking my first class at corepower yoga. It was fantastic! I felt so re-energized after my first class I was actually excited to go home and work some more. That being said I really want to make this blog about my "me time." So, get ready for a ton of posts people! :)

Like the previous post stated we are finally doing some painting / and decorating to our home. I must say it is going VERY slow...haha. Chris and I just can't seem to get into the groove of it yet. Our work, social life, and rare chance to relax seem to keep getting in the way (which honestly hanging out with friends is way more important then painting trim white) - I mean if I have the rare chance to lay around on the couch all day watching netflix I will take that over decorating and painting any day! I am happy to say that I did snatch up the above items from Target's website today and I can't wait until they arrive! maybe they will give me the needed push to get some more things done around our house!

busy busy!

My last post is the complete opposite of this one! ha! I have been super busy and will be super busy up until the 1st week of August which is FANTASTIC! I am working on some really fun projects which will be available next year, along with doing a ton of custom work through my etsy shop! I have also been bitten by the WE NEED TO DECORATE OUR HOUSE. WE HAVE LIVED HERE FOR 2 YEARS bug. So, Chris and I have been taping all our trim off in the house to paint it white - when we moved in half the trim was painted -  the previous owner should have just gone for it and finished it! That being said, I have been picking up a few (too many) new items for our house which has been fun ;) I have been obsessed with these Nathalie Lete plates from Anthropologie from the moment they came into the store when I used to work there, and have been waiting for them to go on sale for the past 3 years... and these ones finally did so I had to buy all of them! Maybe the rest will go on sale sometimes soon - one can only hope!

I have had a nice break in between projects this past week which has been fantastic! I was able to catch up with friends over fancy cocktails / meals and start sketching again. It feels really good to just make something to make something and start updating my portfolio! This piece was a good change of pace and was perfect to work on during this heat wave that makes it miserable to go outside :/

recently

Wow it has been a long time since I last posted! I have been busy working away on some projects expected to hit stores next summer / spring which is very exciting! I had my first piece of stationery picked on minted.com and will be for sale very soon! I worked a shift at anthropologie this week to do inventory, just a one time thing - I can't believe it has been 2.5 years since I have worked there and I really miss the discount! A perk for doing inventory was that they gave me a discount for one day. I was a little disappointed that they couldn't order items online for me since they were pretty much out of everything in my size, but I was able to pick up a few gems pictured above to add to my wardrobe. The pilcro shorts are probably my favorite item that I picked up. I already own 2 pairs of these shorts in cream, and pink - I was really excited they had my size in these in store. I usually hate shorts on me, but these are perfect! I also picked up a few of their seamless cami's not pictured - they are pretty fantastic too.

It's been a week since I have been back from vacation and it was a blast! I am just getting around to posting photos tonight since I had a lot of catching up to do with work! Some highlights from our trip were climbing Big Moose Mountain - which was a moderate, to difficult trail. We all felt very accomplished! We went to Moxie Falls and it was really beautiful! Our friends Ryan and Karen even got engaged there! We all ate a ton of delicious seafood, and sat around the ocean. It was great to get away for a week, but am happy to be back at home!

busy weekend!

Whew! this was a busy but very fun weekend! The Pokemon Battle Royale show was this past Friday, and it had an amazing turnout! You can purchase the remaining prints here! I was really excited to find out that city pages used my doduo illustration on their website! Then the remainder of the weekend was spent with family and friends, and with being around soooooo many people this past weekend I ended up getting a bit of a cold - i'm trying to knock it out with tons of emergen - c and tea, I hope i'm able to shake it sooner rather then later since i'm going on vacation very soon with my boo and a few of our good friends :)  

eeeek its been a long time since I have posted!

Time has really gotten away from me! I have been busy working on some really fun projects - maybe I will be able to share them with you all in about a year or so ;) But in the mean time here are a few things I have made recently when i needed some space from the computer screen! first up is my embroidery I made for the stitch swap - it was a lot of fun to send someone a surprise embroidery and also to receive one. second up are some antique frames I had purchased a longggggg time ago. I thought I could take the frames apart to remove that not some awesome print that was inside, but I couldn't without destroying the frames so I just decided to paint over the glass :) 3rd up are some antlers that my boyfriend and I purchased over at hunt and gather a really awesome antique store in south minneapolis. I jazzed them up a bit with some gold paint and vintage yarn that I have been holding onto for years.

my piece for the pokemon battle royale show

 

I just finished my piece for the Pokemon Battle Royale show. 151 illustrators and designers took on the task of creating original art for the original 151 pokemon. The opening is April 20th at Light Gray Art Lab. Hope you can make it!

why i have been away...

the weather is ridiculous in minnesota right now! it has been in the 70's and hot and sunny - this is unheard of - there was even a thunderstorm tonight. march is usually the snowiest month of the year! so blog, that is why i have been away - been riding my bike, soakin up some sun, and reading the hunger games...

spring is here

Spring is here! The weather is AMAZING for March in Minnesota and is leaving me with wanting to do nothing but to be in the sunshine and to do some shopping for new spring / summertime attire. I haven't been bitten by the spring cleaning bug quite yet, but hopefully soon. I need to purge my closet big time. Well enough of me procrastinating its time for me to get back to work. Hope everyone is enjoying there weekend :)

composition / pattern play

Last night I broke out the paint, which is something I haven't done in forever. I had fun painting a bunch of geometric shapes and textures to use in future pieces but thought I would spend some time compiling a few into some interesting compositions. I'm thinking about adding the top one to my etsy shop :) The second image is of a repeatable pattern, I love making print and pattern and want to incorporate it in this blog more frequently :)
